Diversity & Representation in TVCs

We held the first cross-industry working group to discuss and support Diversity and Representation in the TVC sector in particular. Delighted to have initial participation from across the industry, from ANZA, Comms Council, Agency, and Prod Co/NZAPG and Casting.

We identified 4 key areas to initially research and then work on (noted below), ultimately providing industry wide resources and tools.

• Inclusion & Participation at Production/Post Level

• Representation & Access at Agency/Client/Creative Level

• Casting - Representation, Inclusion & Process

• Diversity & Inclusion Policy/Toolkit/Support

It is an ambitious scope, but the unprecedented communication across the sector gives us so much hope for providing people with some great resources and ultimately making some changes!

Whilst we’ll need to reach out for diversity expertise in some of these areas, many in the industry are either already doing great work at an individual or company level, or have a particular interest in an aspect of this. So we’d love to invite anyone else who is keen to be involved or has something to contribute to get in touch - bex@finchcompany.com.

Blue Book Amendments

NZAPG have been in productive discussions with the Screen Industry Guild NZ on the latest Blue Book amendments currently underway.  Following the latest draft review and feedback provided by the NZAPG Exec group, we requested a few key points to be adjusted specific to short term engagements on commercial productions. A final draft is due shortly, we’ll keep you posted with updates.

Shoot Day Lengths Reminder

We feel the need to again remind everyone that collectively we need to shift the expectations around budgets and day lengths, by explaining we cannot continue to shoot really long single days. It's our shared responsibility under the Health & Safety At Work Act 2015 to continue to ensure shooting schedules take into account fatigue levels and the wellness of crew, aiming for safe shoot day lengths of no longer than 12 hours scheduled shooting time (aiming for 14 hours door to door for those doing the longest day).
